Spend the one hour a week improving the reading skills of 3rd grade students. Statistics show that if a student can't read by the end of 3rd grade, their chances of learning to read become more and more improbable. The volunteer spends 15 minutes x 4 students in that hour listening, helping with words and comprehension for the reader. The teachers select the appropriate books for you and the student to use. The students are tested prior to the start of the program and at the end. Over the last two years of the program, all but 2 students significantly improved their reading skills and comprehension. If this is something you would like to participate in, contact Sandi Schwartz at 661-706-6663 and let her know what day of the week you are available. If you would like to substitute, that is also an option. |

Our quarterly clean up of Dixie Drive from Tonoquint Park north to Valley View. Meet at 8 am and walk the street with the team. Always fun to have fellowship with each other. Wear gloves and hopefully we will have cooler weather so maybe layer a bit. For those who want to go to breakfast after, we will go to Bishops on Sunset Drive in the Alberstons parking lot. |

Our good friend, Kristy Pike, presented an update on the work of The Children's Justice Center here in St. George. She gave us ever saddening statistics of tragic situations in the children's lives but told us about the ever expanding services of the The Children's Justice Center to assist those children. And, our Club Foundation surprised her wtih a $10,000 donation!

Snow Canyon is a habitat for the desert tortoise. Many illegal trails pop up with offroad activities which endanger the lives and safety of the tortoise. Our project works to deter said illegal trails from being used. Join us this Saturday November 11 to work on these trails. Bring gloves and water and layer your clothing as it might be chilly!!! |
