Janet Haines
Something you may not know about Janet is that she is a twin! Her nickname growing up in fact was ‘twin-nie’. It helped when friends would call to know who was being referred to. In high school it became ‘Jannie’ . That nickname lasted three years, then she received her convent name, Sister Caritas. After which it was simply ‘Caritas’ to her friends. And now to Art it’s ‘Kiddo’.
Janet worked as a Social Worker with the American Cancer Society, then as a Community College counselor, after which she went into private psychotherapy practice for 38 years. She loved private practice, finding it both energizing and rewarding. She couldn’t have asked for a better career. She retired 3 ½ years ago and would highly recommend it to anyone!! What she likes most about retirement is beginning the day with a 5-mile walk with Art and Winston in the sunshine in beautiful New Harmony.
Janet collects good memories and lots of miles from traveling. For 45 years her perfect vacation was a long backpack trip with Art, high in the mountains where they’d hike most days and relax with a good book most afternoons. Now she enjoys traveling in their Hummingbird trailer with Winston, hiking to new places, and seeing old friends & family. She also loves to expand her experience of the world and gain new perspective with international travel to Europe or South America. This November Janet and Art will travel to Patagonia to celebrate Art’s 70th birthday and retirement!! – If you’re nice to them maybe they will extend an invite! J
Janet has climbed Mt. Rainier via the Sherman Glacier, saying, “It was spectacular!” She has also walked the 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. This trek required walking between 15 and 20+ miles a day for 30 days! On that she says, “she never knew she could do it, it was a trip and experience of a lifetime!” Both great accomplishments and great memories. “Interesting how the fun is remembered and not so much the pain!” Haha.

Oh yes, and, she CANNOT live without chocolate!!
