Mr. Dave Higbee
(Good Dave, or BAD Dave… You decide!)

Sir Dave was born and raised in the “large” metropolitan area of Buhl, Idaho. To the rest of the world it was a small humble farming community in the Snake River canyon about 15 miles west of Twin Falls, Idaho. His family farmed a 180 acre farm in the summer and worked Dads bowling alley in the winter. Dave thinks living in a small community is a great way to grow up! "I mean, you learn how to steal watermelons, apples etc and hunt Jack rabbits at a very young age! What more could you ask for?" The farm work was hard but the pay was good (board and room). He occasionally even got to drive the tractor to a date!

Dave was fortunate enough to play and letter in football, basketball, track and baseball. Believe it or not he even graduated with honors from good ole Buhl High... The “honor” he speaks of was to get the hell out of Buhl before they put him in jail!  After high school he attended Idaho State University for 3 years but could never decide what he wanted to be when grew up. So his counselor suggested he leave school and come back when he grew up… They are still waiting!

Dave was fortunate enough to make it in the Navy just as the Army draft notice arrived. He spent four years in the Navy as an air traffic controller at NAS Cecil Field- a master Jet training base (no P-3s allowed) in Jacksonville Florida.  After the Navy his dream was to return to Idaho to finish his degree. (He thought he had grown up.) Dave return to the FAA in air traffic control, until they accepted him and said he could go to either Kennedy International, LA International or Dallas Fort Worth. No Thank You said this country boy.

While in the Navy Dave was blessed with two wonderful children; Michelle and Chad. After declining the FAA he joined Albertsons management training program in their grocery distribution system. Dave spent 25 years in the corporate world as Director of Distribution Centers for Albertsons, Grand Central, and Fleming Foods. During this time frame he meet and married Judy, the love of my life. She has been the stability that he needed to get through (enjoy) life. As a matter of fact his children told him, "Dad don't screw this one up!". We all know what a special person she is!!!  Judy and Dave have lived in St. George for 20 years and love it here. When they moved to St. George Dave started an internet based manufactured home sales center business with two partners and sold it three years ago.

Dave’s favorite things to do are barefoot water skiing and rafting wild rivers. He is more than a little sadden that since breaking his neck he can no longer do either one!... Sure Dave, sure... blame it on THAT to be the reason you can't do either one! The craziest thing he has done is walked the Camino de Santiago- 450 miles across northern Spain!!!!! Oh! And marry Nelson! Dave likes to golf, hunt and fish and spend time with my beautiful wife and her dogs.

Dave’s favorite quote is, don’t give till it hurts, give until it feels good!

Thank you Dave for being a Dixie Sunrise Rotarian!Dave says we are stuck with him as he just absolutely loves Rotary and the service opportunities it offers. We love ya, we will keep ya!
