Member Spotlight

Bill Reetz

Growing up in Wisconsin Bill remembers thinking that he would like to be a Game Warden or a Forest Ranger. The college in town specialized in forestry but, when Sputnik orbited the earth he said he’d become an engineer and help the USA combat the threat. He went to the U of Wisconsin in Madison and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After a very brief time with Continental Can Corp as a management trainee he went to work for Watersaver. They were determined to line the canals of the West with flexible membranes and save water!  After 20 years of that he accepted a buy-out and bummed around for a couple of years before moving to a cabin in the mountains of Colorado and joining the ranks of ReMax. (Bill first joined Rotary in 2002 while living in those mountains.)

In 2009 Bill and Sandy decided to buy an RV to spend the winters away from the snow and cold.  Their first trip took them to the Florida Keys for the winter. For years they spent the winters in Arizona and the summers in Colorado working the real estate market.  When Bill turned 70 they decided to hang it up and go full time in the RV.  They had already fallen victim to the pickleball addiction and were Ambassadors at Large. They enjoy playing several times a week and participate in tournaments throughout the Southwest.

Bill and Sandy had been in St George several times before, always camping in the same RV Park.  Then one time a realtor they met on the pickleball courts offered to show them SunRiver- which was hosting some of the HWSG games and had 14 pickleball courts. When they walked into a home that was furnished and decorated with a view of the Beaver Mountains they knew they were in trouble.

Bill recalls a Motorcycle trip to the Great Lakes and a seven week trip to Alaska one summer as his all-time favorite/perfect vacations.  Those and the six week vacation in a campervan in New Zealand!  If he were to write down a bucket list it would include China and Machu Picchu. Oh! And Angle's landing this fall is on the list too. (Sandy won her bid on the Africa trip at the E of E! They plan to go in the spring.) Bill always said he’d try golf when he got older. He guesses that time has come. Higbee- that’s all you! Bill eats to live and aims to stay healthy but chocolate and peanut butter RULE! One of his favorite things to do is fix things. Sandy will frequently hear him say "anything works, nothing doesn't”. You could say that is one of his favorite quotes. To him that means trying something might get the results you want, doing nothing will surely not get you the results you'd like.
