A Message from President Darrin
DARRIN Hallman

The Rotary theme for 2024-2025 is the “Magic of Rotary”. Magic can be described as making things happen that would usually be impossible. Rotary has created a tremendous amount of Magic in the world. Some of this magic includes developing parks, cleaning up litter, providing essential food and clean water, delivering much-needed education, promoting literacy, and global health projects like eradicating polio from the planet. All of these accomplishments were made possible by the service, and generous donations, provided by individual Rotarians working together towards these common goals to make the world a better place. Together Rotarians have changed the lives of individuals, and improved communities in our backyards, and across the globe. May each one of us contribute to the Magic of Rotary in the coming year, by doing our part to contribute to these worthwhile projects here in our community, and around the world.

ROTARY Mexico Service Trip

February 1-8, '25

Led by Michael Birnbaum, 35 years experience of leading international ROTARY /service trips

An awesome opportunity to serve! We will learn more this week from Melinda Thomas.

Here are a few details:

St. George Sunrise International Service
ROTARY Mexico Service Trips
February 1st – 8th 2025
This trip is run by Michael Birnbaum, a Colfax WA Rotarian who is affiliated with the Well Child International non-profit organization.  That organization purchased a hotel for volunteers to stay while in the country and they provide 2 meals a day.  From the moment they pick us up at Phoenix Airport, throughout the entire trip and the trip back to Phoenix they are with us.  They arrange all of the service projects, fun outings, van transportation with guides and bottled water.
Everyone joining can choose if they want to help with one of the following service programs:

  1.  Education/Community:  Tutor ESL (even if they don't speak Spanish), Teach computer skills like Word Processing, Sort Clothes in their Clothing Center, Provide Lunch (come in early to prepare lunch, serve and clean up) one day.  Focus is mainly on women/children but help everyone.

  1. Light Construction: Basic Plumbing, Painting - Kilz Paint to seal walls since most houses are cinderblock, put Tin on roof, etc.

  1. Medical:  If medically trained (Nurses/EMT) then they work with local medical staff to help train.  If no medical training they do home surveys to evaluate needs of a family (do they have clean water, bathrooms, are kids vaccinated, etc.)  That provides details of what is needed by larger health organizations.

After working on your selected service area, we meet back for the FUN.  Shopping, Sunset Cruise, Seafood Dinner at the Beach, Salsa Lessons, Natural Medicine Seminars, Cultural Events + free time
Registration Deadline:  December 1st, 2024  (With Thanksgiving so close we are hoping to have a deadline for club members of November 22nd.
Sign up onlinewellchildinternational.org/rotary-trips/  This link shows both Costa Rica and Mexico Trip.  Select the Service Program you want, Select Country MX, Select Payment Option.  Since we would be signing up 60 days prior, first payment of $500 + deposit of $150 would be due.  Balance is due January 1st.  If you bring a friend (spouse/friend) you get a $100 credit back towards fees.
Cost:  $1,295.00 plus $150 Deposit
Members need to be at Phoenix Airport no later than 2PM on February 1st Vans leave immediately for 4 hour trip to Puerto Penasco.
Hope you can join us for a life-changing experience!
