Steve was born in Richfield, Ut- the oldest of three. His family moved to Taylorsville where he attended Granger High and then the U of U. He served an LDS mission in England. He then returned to graduate from BYU. Growing up Steve wanted to be a professional baseball player. He was always know for his sharp memory. As does happen to us all, it has started to fade some. The craziest thing he has done to date is race a motorcycle on a dirt track. And NO he would not do it again! He wrecked and it caused a kink in his spine which now gives him back problems.
Steve’s father was a mechanic. His mother was a stay at home mother and then a banker. His brother is a mechanic for Rocky Mountain Power. His sister is a supervisor at 911 in Salt Lake County. Steve was the first in his family history to graduate college. He started as an internal auditor with US Steel. He then became the Assistant Controller of the University of Utah Bookstore. After that he moved to Palm Springs California and worked as a Controller for a transportation company. In 1988, during a recession in California he moved to St. George. (At that time the population of St. George was 13,000!)
Steve loves spending time with his family- especially in the mountains. His wife controls his bucket list and on the docket this year is to take him to Alberta, Canada where she served her mission. Steve’s wife works for the DSU Bookstore after being raising their kids. Steve thinks he is losing most of his talents these days but he has always loved basketball and baseball and has always been good with numbers. Interesting enough, he has one son that has a PHD in Computer Science, another a High School Math teacher, the third a Computer Science major and his daughter started as a Math major and is now a Dance major.
Steve joined Dixie Sunrise Rotary in 1997- less than a year after the club was organized. He has been the Treasurer of the club for the past 17 years. He says it has been a wonderful experience!
