NOTE: these are hybrid meetings. You may attend in person at The Bloomington Country Club OR you can attend via Zoom.

Weekly Polio update:
This week's report is tragic:
-
8 AFGHAN POLIO FRONTLINE WORKERS SLAIN WHILE CONDUCTING THEIR DUTIES - After the safe and successful resumption of nationwide polio campaigns since last November, we received tragic news that 8 polio frontline workers have been killed this morning (February 23rd) in a series of shootings in Takhar and Kunduz Provinces in northeast Afghanistan. The vaccination campaign has been suspended in both provinces. Statements have been issued by both the Regional Director of WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, as well as by the United Nations in the country, condemning these attacks, expressing condolences to the families and underscoring that the provision of health and the safety of health workers at the forefront are paramount, and must be kept neutral to any geo-political situation anywhere.
In response to this tragedy, Rotary’s International PolioPlus Committee (IPPC) and the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation donated $100,000 to the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC’s) Keegan’s Heroes Fund, which was established to financially help the families of polio workers in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria who have incurred serious injury or loss of life as a direct consequence of their participation in polio eradication activities. As you are aware, our Club sponsored the Rotary Satellite Club of Southern Utah Veterans.
We are happy to see members of their club joining us from time to time and hope perhaps some of you would like to attend a meeting with them.
They meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 5:30 at the Elks Lodge.
Thanks Veterans Club for your service!
