Following the vision of DGE Jose Velasco 2022 – 2023 Rotary year, with the perspective to “act local, think global”
Lead by: Stephanie Velasco, Midvalley Rotary and Rotaract clubs and Tim Nicolayson, South Valley club as well as Rebecca Box from the Dixie Sunrise Club
Participants: 37 total Rotarians and a dual Rotaractor - Rotarian, among them: 7 PDG’s
14 Utah clubs represented our district 5420
2 Rotaractors from Mexico City, Diana Cazadora Rotaract club D-4170
Mar de Penasco and Caborca clubs represented D-4100
Lodging at: Playa Bonita resort and Hotel in Sandy Beach Penasco
Miles Toured: 712 miles
Service projects: 5 (beach cleanup, painting and landscape of Hemodialysis Center, painting and landscape of
Water plant, providing over 1100 meals for the community based on the sacrifice of a cow
Vaccination of Children and adults in five areas of town with the Health Dept. approval and guidance
- 200 children vaccinated
- 14 were Polio vaccines
- Other vaccines include:
- Influenza, Hep A & B, multivalent, Rotavirus, pneumococcal Albendazol (deworming)
- Guided by 6 brigades of vaccinators and health promoters as well as two Physicians
Highlights:
- Meeting with Polio Survivor and people with disabilities
- Meeting with local Rotarians
- Tour of projects from previous years (schools, houses, access ramps at sports park)
- Tour of the Malecon, shopping involved, cooking classes at restaurant for 25 Rotarians
- Tour of the visitors Center and Schuk Toak Museum of the Biosphere el Pinacate
- Visit local restaurants and Rotarians homes for increased Fellowship and building relationships
- Explore the opportunity for future projects in the community of Puerto Penasco, Mexico
- Incredible food and fun among the sun, sand and mariachi music of Puerto Penasco
Two days after arrival a new Rotarian said: I did not know what Rotary was, until we started working on this trip to Puerto Penasco!
